Life is not a freeway with well identified exits. Rather, most of us find that we are on a road, with unmarked junctions, potholes and complex rotaries. We have to make detours and constantly make decisions as we go through life. Decisions are generic junctures in our life, where multiple paths are available and we have to make a choice.
No one wants to make a wrong decision…. We will settle for nothing but the right one. We believe we are making the right decision, based on analysis of all the data we may have at that time. At times, we go straight from the ‘heart’. Often times the decision will be wrong. We will only find out after the fact, whether our decision was right or wrong. It is this fear or concern of making the wrong decision, that often forces us to procrastinate and delay making the decision. Paralysis through analysis causes stress and impacts our quality of life.
Never look only, for a black/white decision. In most cases, we will have to pick from a million shades of grey. Learn to settle for some shade of grey, as you search for the perfect ivory white or coal black in the vast sand of choices. Talk to friends or confidantes, and get their perspectives as you decide. In the end the decision has to be yours, and your alone.
Oftentimes the opportunity cost of not making a timely decision, may change your life path completely. It is OK to make a wrong decision, as long as you have considered and accepted the results of making that decision, ahead in time. Over time, the process of evolution will help fine tune your decision making abilities to ensure you are generally making the right ones. What is a given, is that all of us will make a multitude of decisions as we travel through life.
