You cannot change your YESTERDAY…. What has happened is already in the past. It is water under the bridge; gone far away as you look back, so move on. Of course, you will carry with you a lot of lessons learned, for the future. Past lessons learned should help one to navigate through the pitfalls of tomorrow.
You cannot totally control your TOMORROW. Today you may decide the path you will take, for tomorrow. But most of tomorrow will happen – and not always, as you wish it to be. You have some control of how you may influence tomorrow, with pro-active planning. For the bulk of your future events, you have no ability to control or even pre-emptively decide how you want them to unfold. I am not promoting that one assumes a blank-slate tomorrow. We all have our hopes and aspirations; so, a rough roadmap is necessary for the future.
We all live in our TODAY; all 7 billion of us. Make the most of your today, live your life to the fullest; and of course, always plan for your TOMORROW. The most control you have is on current events, happening today. If there is something, you want to do or say to someone – don’t let the moment pass. Do it today, versus putting it off for tomorrow. Who knows if tomorrow will be there for us.
As the famous Indian saint/poet Kabir preached via couplets, in the Indian language:
Jo kal kare, so aaj
Jo aaj kare, so ab
Translated to English à
What you plan to do tomorrow, do today
What you plan to do today, do NOW
Very few of us realize that we control our today, with respect to the choices/decisions we make every day; often impacting our tomorrow. We might think that we have no control, and our lives are on a pre-ordained path. We have a choice on how we live our today. How often do we express our appreciation or affection in semi-real time? Or say, what is on our mind to someone. Sometimes we may tend to assume that the other person knows and there is no need to express it. Once the moment passes…. That moment of time is gone. Hug your near/dear ones today, as they will go away tomorrow.
I love my memories – specially the more pleasant ones. I often immerse myself in the past and use them to calm myself, re-enforce my beliefs/values and just re-assure myself of what I have achieved for myself and my family. It is good to mind-travel (vs. time travel) between the past and the present, as you think of the future.
What the future beholds for you, are the unread chapters of your Book of Life. Go through your Book of Life, one page, one chapter at a time, relishing every word you read. Savor your past/present accomplishments and victories. What you already have ‘under your belt’ is real. Do not live your life with the expectations of what you may achieve/accomplish tomorrow.
