As the fine sand in the time-glass flows down,
Grain by grain, slowly but steadily;
So will age slip by, one day at a time;
Diminishing us in multiple ways from our past,
When the time-glass was still full.
Some of us will age gracefully, like wine;
But all of us will not enjoy the aging wine.
For some, there will be a struggle,
Between the body and mind;
And only one will win.
Some will have a strong active mind,
Full of vigor, and alive in the present.
But they will have a withering body,
Their mind will feel like a caged bird.
The mind may have won, but the body has lost.
Some will have an active body,
Alive with energy, mobility, and strength.
But they will have a withering mind;
Adrift aimlessly in the quiet sea, with no sail or rudder.
The body may have won, but the mind has lost
Most of us will straddle the middle ground,
With gradually aging bodies and minds;
At the center of the Gaussian curve,
Away from the two withering mind-body extremes.
Take care of yourself to stay fit in body and mind.
We all live in the present, with plans for our future.
We feel we are in control of our destiny.
How our body and mind will wither with age,
Only the emptying time-glass knows.
We live blissfully unaware, in our present.
